Celebrant: Rev. Phillip Mayer
The celebrant for the August 30 Mass will be Rev. Phillip Mayer. Fr. Mayer is pictured here hearing confessions in a drive through set up during the lock-down in Florida. Father celebrated our first Mass in WNC on July 5.
Fr. Phillip Mayer is a priest of the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter. He was recently appointed parochial administrator of St. James Catholic Church, which began holding Mass in Jacksonville on July 28, 2019. Fr. Mayer came to St. James after having served as the director of Campus Ministry at Santa Fe Catholic High School in Lakeland, as well as serving for a time in the Diocese of St. Petersburg where he completed assignments in chancery, parish, and hospital settings. Prior to coming into the Catholic Church in 2012 Fr. Mayer served as an Episcopal priest in the Diocese of Dallas where he was assigned as the vicar of a mission parish and become known for his fundraising, and energetic leadership and outreach. He is married with three children. As a former Protestant minister, he was given special permission by the Vatican to be ordained as a married man.
Ordinariate priests will be traveling to Western NC to offer this Mass for an emerging group that is working towards starting an Ordinariate parish in our area. Immaculate Conception will be hosting this new community and their liturgies as they get off the ground. The first Masses will take place as announced, normally on Sunday evenings. All are welcome and all are encouraged to visit this beautiful form of the Mass. As with all liturgies during the pandemic, face coverings & signups are required (limited to 190)
